Friday evening, 08-11-24 and strategy 5: Boss the Buffet

Good evening, everyone!
I was very pleased and very happy to get on those scales at SW group and to have lost a pound which puts me very comfortably below target.

And look what I picked up . . .

The new SW recipe book and it looks really good.
I can see it is going to be a great help during Blogmas next month.

What I ate today

Today was rather chilly so this was perfect - underneath that dollop of yogurt was a seed and blueberry mug cake, very filling and satisfying.

Half a healthy extra B and one syn for the seeds (or they might be part of the healthy extra B).

I used three small eggs, some mushrooms, tomatoes and the last bit of left over chicken in the omelette with half an As-worth of cheese on top.
Afters was an easy peeler.

Half a healthy extra A for the cheese, a bit of a B for mixed seeds and two syns for evoo in the dressing.

Fish and chips for dinner.  The fish was a garlic and herb yellowfin sole fillet, the chips were home made and the salad was naked - no dressing.  I had some ice cream for afters - no idea of the syns, unfortunately.
The fish was five and a half syns (I think)

Summary:
half a healthy extra A
one healthy extra B (oats and seeds)
seven syns plus the ice cream

My meal plans for tomorrow:

B:  fruit taken on our walk

L:   soup (from the freezer) and bread; fruit

D:  the last of the chicken pasta bake (also from the freezer), salad; fruit

Exercise:  a walk

The Extra Bit:

The next strategy for having a happy and healthy Christmas with minimal gain is . . .

Boss The Buffet.
I have to be honest and say this does not entirely resonate with me in the way they describe it.  My challenges will not be 'negotiating a table laden with party food' and the advice offered is the standard SW speil - choose the lower syn foods/fill your plate with free and speed food/go easy on pastry and crisps.

If it were that easy, we would all do it, wouldn't we.  But I offer it in case it helps.

I will be having buffets but they will be ones I have put together.  They won't necessarily be 'low syn' but they will be full of healthy stuff such as salmon, olives, hummus/other dips, bean salads, posh fruit, raw nuts, etc, while the ham will be very lean (and home cooked).   There will not be any of those tray bake savouries at three for £7 in Iceland or M&S - they're tasty but very fatty, carb laden and UP, aren't they?

This is where getting the family on board helps so much.  Yes, there will be some crisps and there certainly will be things like my home made veggie sausage rolls and, yes, I will have some, but I can control the amount put out.  We have had that conversation and agreed!
And grandson can have any leftovers.
And it should be a lot cheaper.

So, yes, definitely boss the buffet - in your style and to work for both you and your on-board family.
