Good morning

The dinner yesterday wasn't an outstanding success and won't be repeated although the basic meaty, tomato mix was nice and there was some left over for today - so leftovers of leftovers!

Today's plans:
B:  porridge, berries and natural yogurt
L:  leftover stew (some ham and chicken in a tomato-ey, vegetable sauce)
D:  chicken and ham salad (and cheg salad for Beth, who is eating here)
S:  apple
E:  swimming and aqua

From the freezer:
Nothing because I'm using up leftovers

The frugal factor
Breakfast - even though there were only two berries to pick this morning, we need the sun back again - is cheap.
The rest is more or less leftovers.  The meat content certainly is.  So far it has provided six good portions and there's plenty more to come.  I think it has to be curry tomorrow!

Sooze - I haven't been able to find anything about the Hairy Bikers using couscous as a topping.  Please, could you point me in the right direction?  Many thanks.

  1. It's out of my HB diet book, Joy - when I'm awake enough (only just started on my first coffee! lol) I'll look it up and give you the recipe.

  2. Right, it's a fish crumble - basically a fish pie with couscous & cheese topping, instead of mash. They used 100g couscous (for 4 servings), covered with water then fluff up with a fork when absorbed. Mix in some chopped parsley (or whatever herb best suits your dish) and sprinkle over the food. Then cover the couscous with 25g finely grated strong cheese and 2 tsp oil, this stops the couscous burning. Bake in a hot oven (200c/180 fan) for 10 mins....short time as their fish base is first cooked on the hob.

Hope that's ok for your purposes, Joy - if you want the full recipe and method, let me know and I'll type it up for you. It's the HB Big Book of Dieting 2 if you're interested in getting it.

    1. Thank you so much! Is that different from the Hairy Dieters books (of which I have the first two but can't find - doh)? It looks lovely and very simple too. I'll definitely give that a go.

    2. You're welcome! I had a quick look on Amazon and they seem to have written loads of diet books - at least 6 or 7. Most of them are paperbacks, mine's a big hardback published last year, cover price £25 but I got it (2nd hand) in a charity shop or somewhere for £3 or £4 I think.

    3. Indeed they have. I looked on Amazon but could only find the one 'Big Book of Dieting', not book 2.
