Good morning.

Dinner yesterday was tasty.  I made a marinade for the drumsticks that consisted more or less of lemon marmalade, zest and juice, grain mustard, garlic, balsamic vinegar, lea and perrins and seasoning.  Tasty!

Today's food plans
B:  muesli, fruit and natural yogurt
L:  poached egg on a crumpet
D:  Lamb chop, new potatoes, runner beans, mint sauce (home made now the mint is coming up well); strawberries, blueberries and yogurt (might turn this into a yogurt ice cream by freezing the fruit and then zizzing together with the yogurt and a bit of honey)

Ss:  fruit x 2

From the freezer
the crumpet
the lamb chop
the runner beans

The frugal factor
Breakfast and lunch are pretty frugal, especially as the muesli is a gift
The lamb is not particularly cheap but it's from a bag of random chops, not dreadfully expensive, that I've had for ages.  Heaven alone knows what sort of a life the animal had; I will use up what I've got and then pay more when I want lamb in future.  We have a farm shop the other side of town which I know does 'ethical' meat, so I will investigate that when the time comes.  The new pots are dear but the runner beans balance that by being last year's garden produce.

No swimming today so no extra calories.

  1. Sounds good Joy, I love lamb, it's my favourite meat. Not cheap though, so we don't have it often. Can you point me in the direction of those potato cake things in your header photo?

    1. It is ridiculously expensive and what I have wasn't which is how I know it isn't 'kind' meat but I won't waste it, that would be more wrong, I think. Watching a lot of Mr Fearnley-Whittingstall has had an effect on me!
      The recipe is here: http://my30-30challenge.blogspot.co.uk/2018/04/recipe-home-made-hash-browns.html

    3. Not that long ago, no. I was searching for ways to use the small amount of potato I was allowed and this really fitted the bill nicely!

    1. Me too. He not only talks the talk, he walks the walk as well. A man of integrity.
The fruit is now in the freezer. I think I must get some more bags of frozen fruit just for this sort of thing.

  3. Good Morning Joy

Mmmm...thanks for the idea of the marinade for drumsticks (or anything - maybe?).

Know what you mean about cheap meat. Sometimes you can be lucky, sometimes not (with regards to taste). I always thought that cheap meat is best in the slow cooker. I agree with you about cheap meat.

Whilst HFW is topic of conversation, I think his latest programme about obesity is interesting and hopefully going to make it easier for the public to make sensible choices (if they think their health is worth it).

    Enjoy your day.

    1. Totally agree - mind you, that reminds me, I didn;t watch this weeks. Must get it on iPlayer.
Taste is another issue apart from the kindness side. The best tasting meat comes from the happiest animals, for sure.
      Glad you liked the chicken.
